About FOSP

  • Friends of Sly Park (FOSP) is a non-profit organization which helps support the Sly Park Environmental Education Center (Sly Park).
  • The mission of Friends of Sly Park (FOSP) is to provide financial and other forms of support for the Sly Park  by raising funds for scholarships and to supplement program needs.
  • Funds are raised through partnerships with businesses, fundraising events, and the sale of Sly Park souvenirs.


FOSP Board of Directors for the 2015-16 School Year

Rusty spent 35 years as a Public Educator (Grades K-12 Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent).  He has led over 300-plus overnight environmental education backpacking trips/camps.  He has worked for the past 10 seasons with the USFS as a Trail Crew Supervisor, a Wilderness Ranger, an Archaeology Technician, and a Fire Look Out.  He spent two seasons as a Nature Interpreter and Environmental Education Teacher with California State Parks.  Rusty directed 30 one-week outdoor education trips with K-8 public schools.  He is currently a member of the El Dorado National Forest Resource Advisory Council and has been with the Project Learning Tree Advisory Council for 10 Years.  He has also participated with the Leadership Institute for Environmental Education Humboldt State University.  Rusty is the proud father of three daughters, three grandchildren, and has been happily married to the lovely Sheri for 40 years.

Elena was born and raised in Sacramento and was lucky enough to attend Sly Park as a sixth grader.  Elena lives in Placerville with her husband and three daughters and serves as the Stewardship Director at the American River Conservancy.

Cindy has been married for 31 years and has one adult daughter.  After retiring from a 32 year teaching career, she volunteers her time with Runnin’ for Rhett, a non-profit group dedicated to youth fitness programs.  She enjoys her time working as a classroom aide one morning a week.  Recently, she joined Friends of Sly Park and looks forward to helping students have the opportunity to experience the special program that this school has to offer.
